Why this matters
Passenger-rights law looks simple and is not. Whether an airline owes you money can turn on the reason for the disruption, on how far in advance you were told, on which airport you departed from, on who operated the aircraft as opposed to who sold the ticket, and on case law that moves. The calculator applies the rules as they are understood at the time of writing to the facts you enter. It cannot know whether those facts are complete, and it cannot weigh an argument the way an adviser who has read your file can.
What this means in practice
- The amount shown is an estimate, not a determination of your rights and not a promise of payment.
- Statutory figures change. Governments revise them, currencies move, and a figure correct last year may be wrong today. Check the current statute before relying on a number.
- Deadlines are unforgiving. Limitation periods differ by country and run from the flight, not from when you noticed. If yours is close, take advice now rather than reading further.
- An airline may lawfully refuse. Extraordinary circumstances, timely notice of a cancellation and other defences exist. A refusal is not proof the calculator was wrong, and a calculation is not proof the airline is.
When to see a lawyer
Take proper advice if the claim is large, if the airline has refused and you are considering court, if a limitation period is about to expire, if the disruption involved injury or significant consequential loss, or if anything about your situation is unusual. A qualified lawyer in the relevant country is the right person for that, and this site is not a substitute for one.
