Indonesia

Indonesia prices delay directly: 300,000 rupiah once a flight is more than four hours late, flat, whatever the distance is. Below four hours the airline owes food and drink on a rising scale instead of money, and a cancellation buys a re-booking or a refund.

What triggers it

Delay past four hours

The payment is triggered by the delay category the regulation sets out, and it is the same figure on every route. Airlines sometimes offer to fold it into a voucher; it is a money entitlement.

The rising scale below four hours

From thirty minutes the obligations start small and grow: a drink, then a snack, then a meal. They are cumulative with the wait, not alternatives to it.

Cancellation

Handled as re-booking on the next available service or a full refund of the unused ticket — your choice, not the airline's.

Duty of care — separate from compensation

A drink from thirty minutes, a snack and then a meal as the delay lengthens, and accommodation where a delay runs overnight or the re-booking is the following day. The scale is set by the regulation, not by the airline's goodwill.

The refusals airlines send, and what answers them

“The delay was operational”

The regulation distinguishes causes it treats as the airline's — technical, crewing, commercial — from weather and air traffic. Ask which it is relying on and hold it to the answer.

“Take the voucher instead”

A voucher is not the 300,000 rupiah. It may be worth more, in which case take it knowingly; it is not a substitute the airline can impose.

“It was only three and a half hours”

Then the food and drink scale applies in full. Ask for the actual arrival time in writing and check it against the schedule.

Enforcement

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation supervises the regulation and receives complaints against licensed carriers.

How long you have

Two years in practice for a claim arising out of carriage. Raise it in writing promptly — the regulation expects the airline to deal with it at the airport.
